I hoping my pal, number 42, won't mind me using this photo he snapped.

I mentioned my old house on East Washington Avenue in a couple of recent posts. The above establishment was around the block, conveniently located midway to the nearby music venue which routinely lured my friends to town to see the dueling offspring of Uncle Tupelo. (I once played bumper pool there with a member of an unremembered opening act.) Nestled in next to a couple of biker bars, it was a place to get first rate beers, selected by people who clearly cared about quality above all else. On Saturdays, they had great burgers for dirt cheap. It was a perfect place to begin and end our frequent pub crawls during the years that little chunk of Madison was my home.

Wonders Pub apparently closed its doors for good today.

I haven't been inside that place in years, but I'll still miss it.
