And so we come to the second foray into the diversion the kind personnel at The Onion A.V. Club properly labeled GEEKY LIST TIME. The other day, I took a crack at the music version of this list. Now, the follow-up: movies.

In some respects, this was far easier for me. Since 1990, I've routinely put together a list of the top ten films of the year, so a good half of this tally was agonized over and cemented in my head long ago. I still went back and perused the relevant Wikipedia pages for years I thought might waver on my top choice. Those years in the seventies, on the other hand, were uniquely brutal to sort through. So many amazing films that I had to put the side because there was an unequivocal classic that needed to be designated as the best. I'm not going to engage in the hyperlink madness of the music list, but nor can I let these pass without comment.

So here we are, my picks for the best film for every year since I was born...

From 'Kiss my hot lips' to 'What's the most you ever lost on a coin toss.' )
12th-Jul-2008 10:00 pm - All I know is that, to me, you look like you're havin' fun

Recently, the kindly, tireless folks over at The Onion's AV Club took on a little exercise for hopeless media freaks. It's easy and yet infuriatingly time-consuming to complete. The instruction is this: pick a favorite album for every year since you were born. For purposes on posting it on the AV Club website, it was labeled "GEEKY LIST TIME." As many of you know, I have no hope whatsoever of resisting that.

Depending on the questionable accuracy of Wikipedia, I've dug through the listed releases for the appropriate years, agonizing to ridiculous degrees over which albums to select. Being me, and therefore foolish when it comes to these things, I couldn't just settle for listing these albums. Oh no, I could've been finished with this hours ago had I gone that route. And really, what fun would that be on a Saturday? I just had to go and dress it up.

Feel free to point out all of my foolish omissions or egregiously poor choices. No matter how thorough I tried to be, I kept remember albums as I constructed the entry, so there's decent chance I missed one or two. And then there are those tough decisions. It's going to take some dedicated restraint to keep me from coming back and tinkering with this.

38 lines about 38 albums )

A few days later they repeated the exercise with films instead of albums.

Yeah, I'm going to have to do that, too.

dammit.

Because [info]bellafantasia asked me to (and I have no better idea for a post today):

a. list seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself
b. tag seven people to do the same
c. do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it"

1. I chose names for my last two cars that were somehow related to the first movies I drove to see in them. The Chevy was named Jada and the Ford was named Lili.
2. While I own a few signed items, the only people I have ever asked for autographs were Bill Bradley and John Kruth.
3. Along those lines, I once had Victor Delorenzo of Violent Femmes show me his tranceaphone.
4. As unbelievable as it my seem to some, I hadn't drank coffee for about a year-and-a-half before moving down to Florida.
5. I have no problem whatsoever seeing movies alone, but I feel weird seeing concerts alone.
6. The first beer I ever drank was a Point Special in a can. A true blue bullet.
7. I once facilitated a full day of dedicated, cleverly accomplished embezzlement from a major corporation. I guess that one's more of a confession. I'm assuming the statute of limitations has expired.

I absolutely hate tagging people, so these are the names I'm going to use: [info]cutyourface, [info]indiholly, [info]jackibear5, [info]misssuzylee, [info]mmmm_beer, [info]samuraithief, [info]thatsmrluthor2u.

I've done something like this before.

There's a meme floating around:

Go to google.com and type "(your name) goes".

You're supposed to pick the first sentence the search yields, no exceptions, and post it. While I'm plenty pleased with mine ("Dan goes cynical."), I just think Google Image Search yields more interesting results.

yeah, the third one freaks me out a little bit, too. )

So, the hip new meme is apparently this...

Go to google.com and type "(your name) needs" Then pick the funniest ones to post.

But, since I have to make everything more complicated, I went to Google image search instead.
