When I was a kid, too old to be camped out in front of Saturday morning cartoon but still, you know, camped out in front of Saturday morning cartoons, a show called
Pryor's Place debuted. By this point in time, I certainly knew that Pryor was a, shall we say
unique choice to be pitched at the younger set (this was also two years before
Pee Wee's Playhouse would briefly redefine how sophisticated, imaginative and daring kids programming could be). It was strangely mesmerizing to watch this show play out, Pryor's serrated rhythms softened to allow for sterling lessons in an urban setting as safely colorful as any place where a
discarded radiator makes a dandy instrument.
Anyway, if Pryor could have his own kids show, aren't some other suspect figures who could and should make the transition to Saturday morning kiddie fare? Like this guy...
